ーこけしの話しー

こけしは東北を代表する民芸品として広く知られています。900 年頃、滋賀県で腕を磨いた木地師達が東北へ移り、更に各地の温泉街へも移って行きました。木製食器を作る傍ら、女の子への玩具として作られたものが、こけしの始まりとされています。現在の形が完成されたのは今から約300 年前。最も簡略化された木の造形美、清楚にして素朴な可憐さからは、山村に囲まれた自然や懐かしさを感じます。産地独特の形・模様を通じて、こけしは今日に受け継がれています。

Kokeshi dolls are widely known as a traditional craft representing Japan's Tohoku region. Over 1000 years ago, skilled woodworkers from western Japan (Shiga Prefecture) gradually migrated to the Tohoku region and various hot spring resorts. While crafting wooden tableware, they also began producing toys for girls, which marked the beginning of Kokeshi dolls. The current form was perfected approximately 300 years ago. The simplicity and natural beauty of wooden craftsmanship, coupled with its innocent and rustic charm, evoke the tranquility and nostalgia of the surrounding mountain villages. Through unique shapes and patterns specific to each production area, Kokeshi dolls have continued to be cherished to this day.
